Happy 4th of July Everyone
We only have a couple of days left to the end of the SEO Contest we have been participating in. My entry has been bouncing between page one and page two of Google’s search results, and it is sitting at #12 in the search results right now. The SEO Contest should be wrapping up in the next couple days.
I stopped pushing link building on my page one week ago. I was holding steady between result #6 and result #12, but the person who bought the Blackhat Fish domain has been steadily at the top of the heap, so I decided not to spend too much of my time trying to unseat #1.
Interestingly, for the first couple weeks of the contest, I had been sitting firm around #6 to #8 in the results. I was pushing hard then, because the first four results in Google where results that would be disqualified by the operator of the contest, for violation of the rules. At one point, that would have left me in the #2 spot for qualified participants.
If one is in a competition and one knows that the top four results will be disqualified, why would anyone tell them what they are doing that disqualifies them? I don’t know either, but someone told the top runners that they had disqualified entries, so the front runners fixed their problems. As soon as the Blackhat Fish website had a qualified contest entry, I pretty much backed off on trying to win this thing. I know how hard it is to compete against someone who has the target keywords in the domain name.
So anyway, the contest is going to wrap, probably tomorrow, and my entry is sitting #12 in Google against 184,000 results. I did well, but not well enough to take the $1000 cash prize.
Too bad… I had a good plan for that $1000. ![]()
