SEO Contests

Every now and again, people come up with contests to see who the best SEO providers are and to learn what the best SEO techniques really are.

It is actually set up as a tool for learning better search engine optimization technique, and how to implement that for SEO customers.

Most SEO Contests pay at least $1,000 in prize money. Some SEO Contests pay more, while other contests pay less, but there are always link popularity tributes paid back to the website, who orchestrated the SEO Contest.

During June of 2008, a SEO Contest is being sponsored by the Shouting Zone owners. Their contest is targeting the keyword phrase, “Blackhat Fish” in the Google search results. You can keep track of the results of this contest by clicking this link.

The rules of the game suggest that one must use a blog software, and the blog cannot be hosted on one of the free blog servers.

We have never played before, but we decided to integrate the Blackhat Fish contest into our currently running promotion and SEO campaign. We did not go out of our way to play; we simply integrated the contest target into our current self-promotional work stream.

We are interested to see how our first entrance into the SEO Contest world will play out. On our Day #2, we were sitting at #12 in the search results for Blackhat Fish in the Google search results. On our Day #3, we had slid to the thirties - that is today. But to be honest, our ranking strategies generally take 2-3 weeks to start seeing fruition, so we are not too worried at having dropped.

Yesterday there were only 47 entrants in the contest. Today there are 57 entrants, including the guy who registered the domain name. We haven’t spent any money yet, and we don’t plan to do so.

We have dropped our spider food for the target Keyword Phrase and we have implemented a full outlay of our Karma SEO concepts.

Check back in on July 6th, 2008, and we will share the final results of this particular SEO Contest.

UPDATE: This post was originally made on June 12, 2008. As of this morning on June 16, our blog post ranks #11 out of 181,000 Google results for Blackhat Fish.
