2009 was a rough ride for me. At Thanksgiving 2008, I learned that my father was sick, after having only been retired for one year.

I made the decision that if he needed me to do anything for him, I would be there for him. This decision cost me a lot of business, but I have no regrets – I made the right decision.

He was eventually diagnosed with cancer, although he was a non-smoker.

It worked out that he did need me to help him get to his doctor appointments and to help him with his personal matters. During 2009, I missed nearly 2 months worth of work schedule, and I lost a lot of business as a result.

2009 has been a serious struggle for me. Between missed work and not having the time to properly promote myself, my income is down for the year – considerably.

The biggest factor that hurt me in 2009 is that I got behind on my work and could not catch up. At two different points, I did manage to get caught up, then I found myself missing more work and getting behind again.

My father passed away on November 13th, at age 64. We had his funeral the following week, and then started the work for processing his estate. We still have more to do on the estate, but we are in a holding pattern until we get the proper paperwork from the authorities, so that we can complete the necessary tasks.

Through the next year, I will be working to repair the damage that has been done to my business over the course of the last year.

For those of you who have shown me patience and concern, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.
